As a kid,
I was ultimately convinced of the good in people.
They all had it. Somewhere inside. Even if it was in a tiny little hole.
We were all coming from something beautiful at the start. And it was just a matter of finding that seed.
I was not afraid of dangerous animals or people. I just had to find the right way to reach out to that place within them.
I was in awe of parts of my body, like my hands and the articulation of each finger. I remember clearly feeling “wow”…
I did not have words, or I was not saying them aloud. But I had a clear feeling of amazement at those hands and
fingers that we had been given. All that they could do…
I remember holding pebbles in my hand. Doing nothing. Thinking nothing. Just holding pebbles in my hand.
I grew up then.
But somehow I’m not sure it’s all for the best.
There seems to be a need to see the world the way I used to.
And I guess that is the work I chose to do now.
My intention is to try to express as best I can how I feel the world,
using my eyes as a window, not as a truth teller.
Sophie.
