Portraits Commissions

I offer a limited number of commissioned portraits each year.

What attracts me in portraiture is to capture something of the person’s presence, character and light. I work intuitively and remove myself from any photographic details.

To preserve that way of working, I offer one format and one approach. This keeps the process simple and allows me to paint with freedom.

THE FORMAT

  • Signature size: 28 × 35 cm
  • Oil on a smooth, hand-prepared surface
  • Choice of either a cradled plywood panel or an unstretched canvas
  • Background kept simple to support the portrait
  • Price: €270 (plus shipping)

Artistic Approach

I work from photographs that we select together before I begin.

Once the painting has begun, I work intuitively. Each portrait is interpreted through my own way of seeing. To preserve this approach I do not offer extensive revisions. Each portrait is an original artwork rather than a reproduction of the photograph.

The Process

Only a few steps.

  1. Get in touch.
  2. We discuss the portrait and choose the reference photograph. If you’re willing to share about the person that helps infuse the portrait.
  3. I confirm a timeline.
  4. I paint the portrait.
  5. Once complete, I send photographs before shipping.
